Short Biography

I am a theologian and ethicist in the Reformed tradition, focusing my research on ecclesiology, patristics, critical theories, and applied ethics. I am assistant professor of theology and ethics at Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina where I primarily teach undergraduate courses in ethics/moral theology, with undergraduate and graduate seminars in Christian theology, ethics, history, and philosophy. I am also assistant director of the George Center for Honors Studies, where I regularly co-teach a Great Texts course with faculty from the English Department.

I received my Ph.D. in systematic and philosophical theology from the Graduate Theological Union in a cooperative program with the University of California, both in Berkeley, California focusing on Reformed theology (specifically, ecclesiology).  My other interests include the intersections between theology and economics, social and critical theories, and politics; the theology of St. Augustine of Hippo; the political theology of Johann Baptist Metz; and Chinese theologies.  I am also interested in applied theological ethics in a variety of fields. Please visit the "Writings" section to see my publications.

Since 2013 I am a member of the American Academy of Religion, and since 2015, a member of the Society of the Scientific Study of Religion.  Since 2014, I've also been involved with the Ecclesiological Investigations International Research Network.  I am also the first and founding editor-in-chief of the Berkeley Journal of Religion and Theology: The Journal of the Graduate Theological Union.

I hold a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary where I concentrated my studies on Christian ethics and religion/society.  I also hold a Masters of Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago studying economic theory and ethics.
